Q MAKE SURE TO READ THE INSTRUCTION IN FULL!!! The virtual barber illusion, above, is a highly compelling auditory illusion that requires an Internet connection and a good set of headsets. For this assignment, I would like you to, first, experience the illusion by clicking on the link above. Make sure you are wearing a pair of headsets (good quality headsets do help), connected to your computer. Close your eyes and remain as still as possible during the entire duration of the demonstration. Second, I would like you to describe your experience participating in the demo. Please, be as specific as possible. Third, I would like you to explore the Internet (careful in trying to consult reliable sources), 1) define, 2) describe and 3) explain the audio demonstration from a scientific perspective (find research as in peer-reviewed articles). Make sure to explain why, from a scientific point of view (research the terms and find references), the illusion is so compelling. Note that defining, describing and explaining have different meanings (LINK Links to an external site.). Copy and paste the info below into your essay (if the text below does not appear in your essay, you will lose points): *************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** The illusion, described and explained: Definition, explanation and description of key terms: • Binaural hearing: • Binaural recording: • Interaural time difference: • Head-related transfer function: • The sense of presence (as in virtual reality): *************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** Expectations: • Use of full sentences and grammatically sound text • Original work (no plagiarism and yes, we check) • Limit the number of direct quotes. The primary reason for this assignment is for you to demonstrate your ability to integrate information, which cannot be demonstrated with excessive use of quotes. • A full cohesive, stand-alone essay that can be read and understood outside the context of this course • This assignment does not have a page limit BUT this assignment represents a significant amount of work that cannot be adequately achieved with, for example, 5 sentences or even 5 paragraphs that address the 5 bullets found in the instruction. • You need to cite (Scientific Style and Format) Links to an external site.at minimum, 4 peer reviewed publications Links to an external site.. You need to write a full reference entry for each publication (doesn't have to be APA but they sure can be) MAKE SURE TO HAVE AT LEAST 4 EXTERNAL PEER-REVIEWED REFERENCES (no references to lectures) TO SUPPORT YOUR WORK! NOTE: OUTSIDE REFERENCES (LINKS) HAVE BEEN ADDED THROUGHOUT THE INSTRUCTIONS TO ASSIST YOU. GREEN WORDS INDICATE SUCH LINKS. CLICK AND READ THESE LINKS CAREFULLY. IMPORTANT NOTE: “Plagiarism (Links to an external site.) is the "wrongful appropriation" and "purloining and publication" of another author’s "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions," and the representation of them as one's own original work.” This means that if you read an essay on the topic written by another individual and decide to use the same organization or outline, you are guilty of plagiarism. Similarly, lifting a sentence, or even part of a sentence, can be considered plagiarism. NOTE: I will be using tools to assist me in making sure plagiarism did not occur. Here are some tools: WriteCheck (Links to an external site.), TurnItIn (Links to an external site.), iThenticate (Links to an external site.), to name just a few. If found guilty of plagiarism, you will automatically receive a zero on the assignment and a case will be opened with the office of Conflict Resolution and Student Conduct Services (CRSCS) which might result in a number of sanctions (Links to an external site.). To submit your assignment, upload your response as a .pdf file. The experience of having a virtual haircut was amazing for me. I was not expecting it to be as much awesome as it was. At the start, I put my headphones down two to three times to check if vices were coming from outsiders. They are giving such a real impact on their presence that anyone can get the illusion. I have previously read and experienced visual illusions but never experienced auditory illusions. I used to wonder how auditory illusions would be and how they will be affecting one's senses. After having this experience, I got the answers to all my questions. In the start, the way the voice intonations of Ligue were coming into my ears, clearly giving an idea of their position and movement, I could feel as if Ligue was moving around me.
